adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Lois has found a sanctuary! His story: Baia Mare, Romania. Lois, your gaze breaks our hearts and we hope so much that there are people who give a chance to an elderly, shy dog. Lois has been waiting in the shelter for such a long time. Day by day, confined to 2 square meters. Lois, with its estimated age of 9-11 years, is no longer the youngest, with a shoulder height of 55-60 cm, he belongs to the medium-sized dogs. At first, Lois was very shy and insecure. He was so intimidated by the constant noise around him that he only hid in his hut. But Lois has made huge progress and is now a truly friendly, approachable dog who allows being petted and stroked. So it is even more important that Lois finds a home quickly where he can continue to learn to trust people. We wish for Lois sensitive people who will teach him how to live in a family. Those who catch him where he is and give him all the time he needs. How long that will take, we don't know. But we know that Lois will eventually enjoy having his inner peace and learning what it means to have a family. The pace is set by Lois entirely, and he must not be put under pressure. Lois is searching for a quiet, rural home without much commotion and noise. A large, fenced-in garden would be perfect for Lois.

About Lois

What life with Lois looks like

Lois is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lois, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lois?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lois on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lois if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lois already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lois isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lois and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
