Adopt Lola

Mixed Breed · Female

Lola is a 6 month Labrador pup who has arrived to us following an unforeseen health crisis for one of her family members. She is a lively, bouncy girl who will need plenty of basic training and socialising to turn her into the wonderful all-rounder that she has the potential to become. Lola has a fabulous nature with people and is very biddable. She has a tendency to jump up a lot which we have started working on – we suspect this girl had very few boundaries in her last home. Her next home must be on board for consistency with routine and training, as well as providing lots of outlets for play and exercise. Lola reacts ridiculously when she sees other dogs – hackles and barking – she hasn’t a clue! We doubt she has spent much time with other dogs so it great to have her at our centre where she is learning to relax and mingle nicely with other dogs. This is something that owners will have to find opportunities to work on. Have you any friends with dogs you can regularly walk with? Do you have a companion dog she can learn from? Because she definitely needs work put in while she is still young enough to overcome her silliness around dogs. Lola has many wonderful attributes – she loves toys, she is immaculately house-trained, she loves her bed, she’s very sweet and is very good at keeping herself entertained. Any of her shortcomings right now are not due to her temperament, but more because of limited exposure to real life. Children 8+ for Lola and a secure garden is preferrable, depending on location.

About Lola

What life with Lola looks like

Lola is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at West Cork Animals in Cork.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Lola, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lola?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. West Cork Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lola on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lola if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — West Cork Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lola already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lola isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with West Cork Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lola and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
