Tilly

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Meet Tilly ❤️ It’s time for another updated profile for one of our longest residents. Tilly has now been in our care for almost three years, and if we’re honest, we simply can’t understand why she’s still waiting. She’s a beautiful, big-hearted hound who has so much love to give. Like many hounds, she’s wonderfully independent and can be as stubborn as a mule when she decides she has other ideas—but that’s all part of her charm, and it never fails to make us smile. Tilly absolutely lives for her walks. Give her open fields, plenty of new scents to investigate, and time to explore at her own pace, and she’s in her element. Watching her nose lead the way is one of life’s simple pleasures. She’s social with other dogs and enjoys their company, but over the years she’s grown into a confident, settled girl who would also be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home, soaking up all the love and attention for herself. If there’s one thing that melts Tilly’s heart, it’s children. She absolutely adores them. We feel she could happily share her home with children aged 8 years and over. We do believe that something in her past has made her especially protective of the people she loves, particularly children, and that loyalty is simply part of who she is. Tilly is strong, affectionate, funny, and full of character. She’ll make you laugh with her stubborn streak, keep you active on adventures, and reward you with unwavering love and loyalty. After almost three years, we genuinely don’t know why this wonderful girl is still overlooked. She has waited long enough. Could you be the family that finally shows Tilly what it’s like to have a place to call home forever? ❤️

About Tilly

What life with Tilly looks like

Tilly is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Almost Home Animal Rescue NI in Belfast.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Tilly, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tilly?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almost Home Animal Rescue NI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tilly on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tilly if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almost Home Animal Rescue NI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tilly already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tilly isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almost Home Animal Rescue NI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tilly and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
