Lola

Mixed Breed · Female

Lola's story is one that many of our shelter companions share and is so characteristic of Spain and Southern Europe: Neighbors observed in a suburb as a foreign car slowly pulled to the side of the road, the passenger door opened, a dog leaped out, and the vehicle accelerated before the door could be closed again. Left behind was a confused female dog who briefly followed the vehicle but soon gave up and looked around helplessly. The neighbors informed our Spanish partners, who took in the now homeless female dog, gave her the name Lola, and are now ensuring she looks for safety and a new home. No one can explain why Lola was simply "disposed of." The approximately three to four-year-old Shepherd mix female dog (as of February 2024) is a thoroughly friendly companion who gets along well with her four-legged roommates. She avoids conflicts, is very playful and active, and has recently also learned to settle down. She loves humans and would prefer to spend as much time as possible in their company. It is especially hard for a dog like Lola to be in an animal shelter where everything necessary is provided and the caretakers do their best, but there is no home where a primary caregiver is present for Lola to bond with. So far, Lola has shown no fears and seems to have been well-treated up until her departure. We are now searching for a loving home for our sunbeam, with people who want to foster Lola, because she is certainly a bright mind waiting to unleash her full potential. Lola also has a repertoire of cuddle hours and if you have a spot on the couch you would like to share with an absolutely loving and loyal friend, then this piece of heaven is exactly right for her.

DE·Show original

About Lola

What life with Lola looks like

Lola is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lola, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lola?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lola on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lola if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lola already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lola isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lola and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
