Looney

Mixed Breed · Female

Looney - The clever shepherd dog mix is approximately 2020 and came to us because she was abandoned. Looney is skeptical towards strangers and expresses this through growling or fake attacks. If Looney is not given the space she needs, it can happen that the dog bites. Examinations and grooming can be done by a trusted person without problems with the sensitive dog. Looney also enjoys cuddles and walks in a calmer environment with the human (and other dogs). Looney loves her toys - throwing them around and tearing them apart according to her own will gives her the greatest pleasure! To gain Looney's trust, it takes time and empathy, but once it is achieved, the dog forms a strong, honest and deep bond with her human. Nevertheless, Looney chooses her "favorite humans" herself, so she becomes strongly attached to individual people and would do anything for them. If the dog is not guided lovingly and clearly in this relationship, she also claims the human for herself. In the dog group Looney may need guidance to behave appropriately. The presence of her human can be an trigger for conflicts if it is not explained to the dog that it does not mean "my human". Looney also does not avoid conflicts and likes to send her familiar dogs ahead to provoke them. With appropriate clear and calm support, Looney is compatible with various types of dogs, but this depends on sympathy. Looney has her own will and communicates it directly and clearly, although she appears insecure. For the sensitive and restless dog, we are looking for people with experience with dogs who take her by the paw, give her rules, provide her with guidance and security, and can catch and stabilize her in her restlessness and insecurity. Looney feels responsible for everything. With this "task," the dog is overwhelmed and needs someone who shows her that this task is taken over by the human. Looney is afraid of fireworks and loud noises, which makes living in the city unsuitable for her. She has already lived with children, but due to her sometimes erratic behavior, we prefer a home without children. Looney is microchipped, vaccinated and spayed. DE·Show original

About Looney

What life with Looney looks like

Looney is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel in Brandenburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Looney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Looney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Looney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Looney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Looney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Looney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Looney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
