Lotek

Male · Adult · 7 years

Lotek is a beautiful, large dog of the Hound breed. So far Lotek lived in the yard with two siblings. Sometimes in the kennel, sometimes on a leash... As with unneutered young males, he often ran away in search of various attractions. Lotek ended up in the animal shelter after one of these escapes. His "guardians" took the opportunity and gave up the dog, which was a problem for them... 😞 As befits a typical Hound, Lotek is not a trusting dog. He doesn't like strangers, keeps his distance from them, and in his previous home, he could react nervously to guests, whom he saw as suspicious intruders (although he never bit anyone). However, he was completely gentle with his caregivers. He got along very well with his canine siblings. All these characteristics of Lotek we observe in the animal shelter. The dog reluctantly meets new people, but when he sees a familiar volunteer, he clearly becomes lively, willingly goes out for a walk with him, plays and shows affection 🥰 He is interested in other dogs and although he might chase unfamiliar four-legged friends, he communicates very nicely with them when there is closer contact and proper introduction. Unfortunately, the stressful environment and life behind bars turned out to be very overwhelming for Lotek 😢 The dog suffers from chronic inflammation of the intestine, which probably cannot be cured under shelter conditions... This issue is associated with great discomfort - Lotek often crouches during walks, as if trying to go to the bathroom and can spend even up to fifteen minutes in this position 😞 For Lotek we are looking for a caregiver who knows the needs of dogs of this breed and will be able to provide the dog with a calm, stable life without any sudden changes. The dog certainly won't be able to live in an apartment - he has a tendency to defend the space against strangers, and people encountered on the staircase will be treated as a threat. We prefer a house in a quiet area, with a garden. However, it should be remembered that Lotek cannot be left in the yard without supervision, as he easily jumps over almost two-meter fences. Lotek will adjust to a home with older children who have been taught to treat animals with respect. He can also live with a friendly female dog of similar size. The caregiver must prepare for high expenses related to feeding and possible treatment of such a large dog. Lotek to piękny, duży pies w typie podhalana. About Lotek

What life with Lotek looks like

Lotek is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Chronic inflammatory bowel disease requiring ongoing veterinary care and special diet

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lotek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lotek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lotek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lotek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lotek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lotek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lotek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
