Lothar

Male · Adult · 4 years

I am Lothar, known as Lotti … a clever, entertaining fellow with great hopes for a wonderful new home. I was secured for animal welfare reasons. Unfortunately, over the years, my tailfeathers were apparently clipped and they won't grow back – so I can no longer fly. That's why I'm looking forward to a properly equipped aviary or a flight area with accessibility features, where I can move around a lot, climbing and walking – with much joy and entertainment value. ☺️ I'm probably a bit older, but my exact age is unfortunately unknown. At first, I'm rather shy and cautious, but with trust, I'm friendly and playful. I'm easily bribed with nuts. I like to tell stories and "laugh." I wish for … an experienced wonderful home with a suitable female companion. Our aviary should be at least 3 meters long and offer plenty of wood for gnawing and shredding. I look forward to some variety and lots of space. Could you give a small handicapped bird the great happiness? Get in touch. I'm looking forward to you!

About Lothar

What life with Lothar looks like

Lothar is a large adult bird waiting at Tierheim Berlin in Berlin.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lothar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lothar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lothar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lothar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lothar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lothar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lothar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
