Lou

Mixed Breed · Male

Lou came to us together with Lester and Lizzie after being rescued by the Košice City Police from unsuitable conditions at Luník IX, where the dogs first lived on the balcony and later in the basement. The first days were difficult for everyone and the dogs appeared frightened, but after a short period of rest, patience and proper approach, they quickly calmed down and began to make nice progress. Lou is a nice, curious and active puppy who likes to explore new things and the environment. Contact with humans makes him happy, he enjoys being petted and treats can quickly motivate him. He is sensitive and eager to learn, new stimuli interest him and he discovers the world around him with natural interest. It is still necessary to work on him on a leash, as he sometimes pulls due to curiosity and enthusiasm. Handling him is trouble-free. Hygiene habits are managed with regular walks. He is just getting to know toys, but he has a desire to play. Inside he behaves politely, doesn't destroy things and gradually appears more confident and calmer. He is looking for a home in an apartment or house with access inside, with people who give him a calm and loving approach. After everything he has been through, he has the chance to lead a happy and safe life in a loving environment where nothing will be missing and he will be part of the family.

SK·Show original

Po tom všetkom, čím si prešiel, má pred sebou šancu viesť veselý a bezpečný život v milujúcom prostredí, kde mu nebude nič chýbať a bude členom rodiny.

About Lou

What life with Lou looks like

Lou is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
