Louis

Podenco · Male · Young · 2 years

Thelma & Louis were caught by our Search & Rescue team with traps, as they were reported for a long period of time to be running around, without humans, on a big field near a busy area of Puerto Banus. It took a while to catch them, but once they arrived to the shelter, they settled in very quickly! We thought it will take time for them to come out of their shells, but no - food, kind humans and safety allowed them to gain confidence fast. The first few days they were sleeping deeply, resting of a long time of running & uncertainty. Now they are living together with another female Podenco, and older one, and really enjoy going to the free-running parks. Louis loves to explore in the bushes, and to dig rabbit and mouse holes, he could spend a day rearranging the garden, if he will have the luck to find a home with an outdoors space. He loves to go on adventures and is always ready for a walk! Thelma & Louis are of course bonded, but no longer dependant on each other. While Thelma would definitely like to have 1 or more dogs next to her, then with Louis we can imagine that he could be an only dog in his own household, in case regular dog contact, social walks and playtime is provided to him. He could also very well join a home with another dog present, and he feels more relaxed and comfortable living with females rather than males, though he has shown to be social or neutral with all dogs he has met so far. Luis is active when he is out for walks, but he is also able to relax and lay down in his kennel or on the sofas, and we believe that when his need for physical activity is taken care of, then he would live a calm life inside a home - in a balanced environment of course. Louis has already met a lot of children in the shelter and he is kind with all people that he meets. He could potentially also live in a home with bigger children, we would just need to see about the excitement and stress level in the home in that case. We do not yet know how Louis feels about a town environment, so for the moment we are looking for a home close to the nature for Louis. His shoulder height is approximately 50cm.

About Louis

What life with Louis looks like

Louis is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at Triple A Marbella in Marbella.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Louis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Louis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Triple A Marbella handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Louis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Louis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Triple A Marbella will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Louis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Louis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Triple A Marbella early rather than rehoming privately; they know Louis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
