Louise

Mixed Breed · Female

"Little Snugglemouse" Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Gender: female, neutered Date of Birth: Oct. 2021 Height: under knee-high Gets along with dogs: yes, but ONLY single placement Has children in the same household: no Home sought: in the countryside, without children, without other animals, experience with dogs that have grown up being low-reactive, an advantage The 2021-born, very small American Staffordshire Terrier-female dog Louise was initially shy but has become very people-friendly and is strongly oriented towards her people. Louise has not learned much in her previous life. She was kept and seized in a basement. Isolated from the outside world in her past, she is beginning to catch up on the first things here in small steps. She already knows the harness, leash, and muzzle, but she is very insecure outside with all the new environmental stimuli. On the leash, she goes obediently, seeking shelter outdoors with her people. She shows herself to be compatible with dogs, mastering social walks perfectly – but due to her background, she will only be placed in a single placement. Louise rides obediently in the car, but still has a lot of stress in indoor areas. For the insecure female dog, we are looking for a home in the countryside where she can be a single princess without other animals. This should be quiet and childless so she can also relax. As she is strongly people-oriented, being alone in the future home could be difficult for her, and she also needs a lot of routine, otherwise, she is quickly overwhelmed. People interested in Louise must be prepared to get to know her over a longer period (patronage with adoption, support from our trainers).

About Louise

What life with Louise looks like

Louise is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Louise, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Louise?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Louise on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Louise if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Louise already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Louise isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Louise and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
