Adopt Luca

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 4 years

29-05-26 Luca is an incredible boy who has come into our care from a breeder in search of a fresh start. He already knows his name very well, so his new adopters should keep this the same to avoid confusing him as he settles into his new life. Luca was previously used as a fake security dog and has spent most of his life living outside, but beneath his big appearance he is a real softie. He is easy to handle and enjoys human company, though he has understandably found kennel life quite stressful and will often plead with us to come back when we have to leave him. Luca would be happiest and thrive best as the only dog in the home, where he can enjoy all the attention, settle more easily into a routine, and build a strong bond with his new family. He will need adopters who have plenty of time to spend with him and who have experience of the breed or similar breeds. Luca cannot live with cats or small furries and he cannot be around small dogs. As Luca has spent most of his life outdoors, he will need to learn about house training and the other basics of home life. He will need patient adopters who can help guide him through these new experiences as he adjusts to living in a home environment. Luca can already walk on a lead, though he does pull at first and so this is something his adopters will need to work on with him. He is a very active boy, so he would love an active household where he can enjoy plenty of adventures and become a loyal companion once he is settled in. He is a strong dog and can both jump and open gates, so he will need a very secure garden and confident handlers who are able to manage his strength safely. Luca is an intelligent, affectionate, and loyal boy who simply wants to be close to his people. In the right home, with structure, companionship, and plenty of love, he will make an incredibly rewarding companion. Luca has a travel document.

About Luca

What life with Luca looks like

Luca is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luca?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luca if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luca isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
