Adopt Lucas

German Shepherd · Male · Puppy

Lucas – a young German Shepherd puppy is looking for his people Lucas is a young Belgian German Shepherd mixed breed, who currently brings a lot of energy, joy, and potential. The friendly male dog meets people openly and with an open mind. He seeks contact, enjoys attention, and is basically very cooperative. At the same time, it is noticeable that he has likely received little training and clear orientation so far. Lucas is currently still quite stormy on the go. He shows enthusiasm with full body involvement, and impulse control is not yet one of his greatest strengths. That is why he needs people who set him friendly but consistent boundaries and explain the rules of cohabitation to him. As a Belgian German Shepherd mixed breed, Lucas probably comes with a typical amount of intelligence, learnability, and work ethic. These dogs not only want to be physically challenged but also given mental tasks. They are often extremely attentive, sensitive, and ready to work closely with their people – if they are given the appropriate guidance. For families with small children, Lucas is currently not a good fit. Simply because he cannot always dose his energy and enthusiasm appropriately and can quickly become too stormy. We would like to find active and ideally dog-experienced people for Lucas who enjoy working with a young dog and accompanying him through the often turbulent puppy phase. He will need time, training, and patience – but also the chance to learn how a relaxed everyday life works. The decision to adopt a German Shepherd, like any dog, should never be made spontaneously. These dogs often bring extraordinary abilities but also high demands on their people. But whoever is ready to take on responsibility and give Lucas the necessary guidance can find in him a loyal, smart, and engaged companion for life. Here is Lucas's video. If you are aware of what adopting a shelter dog entails and have fallen in love with the need, please contact the responsible mediator at SALVA Hundehilfe. We would also be very grateful for the provision of a foster home!.

About Lucas

What life with Lucas looks like

Lucas is a puppy/kitten german shepherd dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
