Lucia

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Breton Mix Lucia - Behind the shyness, life awaits The young Breton mix dog Lucia ended up at a Spanish animal shelter and is still very shy and reserved there. But with patience, calmness, and gentle, loving conversation, it is already possible to approach her, touch her, and give her a little petting. We do not know what Lucia has experienced or learned in her previous life. She will therefore need time to arrive, build trust, and learn about life alongside humans. The young dog must certainly still learn the dog ABC and many things of our normal everyday life. As a Breton mix, Lucia probably also brings characteristics of this active and intelligent hunting breed with her. Bretons are often active and have a keen nose - a corresponding hunting instinct should therefore be considered. Joint activities and nose work can later be a nice activity for her. We wish Lucia patient people who initially do not set high expectations on her, but show her with time, love, calmness, and structure that she can feel safe. She is still young and has so much ahead of her. And maybe her name will suit her perfectly at some point: Lucia means "the light-bringer" or "the shining one". At the moment, this shine is still hiding a bit behind her shy facade - but with the right people by her side, it may come to light piece by piece. A foster home would also be a wonderful stepping stone into new life for Lucia. Who would like to take this shy girl by the paw and discover the world with her? Then please contact her responsible mediator. Here's Lucia's video

About Lucia

What life with Lucia looks like

Lucia is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
