06-10-2016 - Take a look at how majestic I've become? But I'm still a bit of a rascal, I don't quite trust everyone yet, but I've made great progress. Who knows, if I try my best, I could become not only beautiful but also good, and find a home? When he arrived here, he was an unapproachable dog, today he's almost recovered. 10-08-2016 - Do you remember the poor dog we rescued in Cabu Abas with a broken eye full of worms? Here is Lucillo today. He still has a lot of fear of people but slowly we will manage to make him "melt". Lucillo, I wish you knew how hard we fight for you. Sometimes I wonder if those who take care of animals and are part of big "signed" associations really love them. But I'll talk about this in another episode!!!!!! Now enjoy Lucillo because we have saved him!!!!!!!!!!! 10-05-2016 - Do you remember Lucillo, the dog from Cabu Abas that we rescued with a big eye wound? Here he is, perfectly healed, he is slowly gaining trust in people. He is still very cautious but slowly we will manage. He is a beautiful dog and when he is completely recovered we would like to find him a nice home. He has suffered enough. 18-03-2016 - Our guy is slightly changing his attitude, slowly but very slowly, he is convincing himself that there is a world where he can trust. He is very, very scared and his path will be long. The eye wound is slowly healing but there is still work to do. Thank you to those who will help Lucillo and join us, he needs it. 10-03-2016 - Poor Lucillo, his wounds are not only on his body, the worst are in his soul. He is so scared that it's almost impossible to touch him. Today we didn't want to stress him, today we kept him under control, set up the treatment that will continue for days and then he will be operated on his eye. These are the animals that rip your soul out. Lucilo will have to overcome many fears, he will have a long path, he has to understand that here we only want to protect and care for him. In Cabu Abbas many people have tried to help him but he is unable to trust humans, when one person offers a hand, a hundred chase him away, this is the sad reality. Poor Lucillo. Thank you to those who join us in saving him. 09-03-2016 - The report came to us through a friend: in the area of Cabu Abbas she saw a dog in need of care, seriously injured. Unfortunately, unapproachable, like so many others, but not because he is bad but because he is extremely scared. The situation in Cabu Abbas is known to many, many people have tried to help the animals there but it seems like an endless well, even females have been spayed, both by us and by another association, it seems the tap never turns off. Recovering this poor animal was not easy, only thanks to the skill of our veterinarian, Graziano, and one of our volunteers, Marco, everything was possible. The dog has a serious eye injury with a deep cut, now infected and also has other abrasions on his body. Immediately subjected to tests, they showed a strong anemia and the presence of many white blood cells, certainly due to the infection. He will receive all the necessary treatment. Lucillo, this is what we called him, is a poor dog, a victim of those who don't sterilize, a victim of those who prefer to let animals give birth and become strays. The dogs of Cabu Abbas are all the same, children of the same mother that no one has ever managed to sterilize, the reason we know perfectly well but it's impossible to enter people's minds. How many times have we intervened to solve the problem of Cabu Abbas, how many dogs in conditions like Lucillo have we rescued in Cabu Abbas? Many but the situation will never change until that female is sterilized, who gives birth every six months, producing puppies that become poor victims of bullies and people who don't love animals. Thank you to those who will help us support the treatment of Lucillo.

Povero Lucillo.

About Lucillo

What life with Lucillo looks like

Lucillo is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at L.I.D.A. Olbia in Olbia.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucillo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucillo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. L.I.D.A. Olbia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucillo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucillo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — L.I.D.A. Olbia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucillo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucillo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with L.I.D.A. Olbia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucillo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
