Lucky

Bernese Mountain Dog · Male · Adult · 7 years

Breed: Bernese Mountain Dog. Born: October 16, 2019. Gender: male. Color: tricolor. Weight: approx. 50 kg. Height: approx. 60 cm. Build: sturdy. Unneutered Lucky, a 6.5-year-old, unneutered Bernese Mountain Dog, is looking for a new home due to his owners’ lack of time. He was raised with lots of love by his owners and is simply sweet and cuddly. Lucky also gets along very well with other dogs. However, since he has been the “crown prince” of the family until now, there should be no other dog in his new home. Compatibility with cats is unknown. Lucky would very much enjoy being rehomed with children, though they should be somewhat older and steady on their feet, as he occasionally enthusiastically puts his full 50 kg into motion. Leash walking still needs work, as Lucky pulls strongly on the leash. Unfortunately, he cannot be off-leash right now, but with recall training, this will likely become possible in the future. We are looking for people who can give the gentle giant Lucky the affection he’s accustomed to from his current family—and who are steady, confident, and ready to meet his daily need for exercise and play. Would you like to meet Lucky? Please contact Andrea Kammann at phone number (0 15 25) 4 60 97 30.

Rasse: Berner Sennenhund. Geboren: 16.10.2019. Geschlecht: männlich. Farbe: tricolor. Wollen Sie Lucky kennenlernen? Dann nehmen Sie bitte Kontakt mit Andrea Kammann, Tel. Nr. (0 15 25) 4 60 97 30, auf.

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a large adult bernese mountain dog dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Schwetzingen und Umgebung e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Schwetzingen und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Schwetzingen und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Schwetzingen und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
