Lucky

Male · Adult · 3 years

Lucky is looking for true happiness. Lucky is only two years old and is already looking for a new family for the fourth time. We don't know why he was originally given up, but it seems that he hasn't learned much during this time. There are situations that make him uncertain and where he still needs help to become more secure. Last year it seemed as if things were finally going to work out. A wonderful family took him in and worked with love and patience on his issues. Unfortunately, there was one thing that became more and more of a problem for the family. Lucky tends to snap when he becomes unsure. He lacks alternative strategies to resolve his conflicts. This poses a potential danger, especially for children, which is why the family is now reluctantly looking for a new home for their beloved Lucky. Lucky initially meets strangers with suspicion, but once he trusts them, he becomes very attached. He is a young and athletic dog with whom many great things can be done. What he needs just as much as exercise is tasks that also mentally engage him. When this is the case, he relaxes very well at home. It is also no problem for him to be alone for a period of time. Lucky is a lovable dog who should not be underestimated. He needs experienced dog people who can guide him safely through situations. If there is also a garden available, then Lucky's happiness would be perfect. If you are the right people for him and are looking for a great companion, contact his owner as soon as possible. Here are Lucky's videos: Video 1 and Video 2.

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a large adult dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
