Adopt Lucky

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

March 28, 2026: Lucky was allowed to travel to its German foster home. April 11, 2026: Lucky has settled in well at his foster home and enjoys the loving care of his foster mom, who has plenty of dog experience and offers him a temporary home. In his current living environment, Lucky is a much-welcomed little companion: With his open, friendly nature, he approaches all kinds of people and cheers many up with a smile. He also shows himself to be calm and unbothered in dealing with older people and unfamiliar daily situations. Cuddles mean a lot to him – he seeks the closeness to humans and also enjoys the quiet, shared moments very much. That he is blind in one eye hardly stands out in everyday life. Walking on a leash is currently being trained diligently with him, and it is improving increasingly. He also masters indoor potty training reliably, and for a certain period, he can already stay alone well. Encounters with fellow animals find Lucky exciting, and he greets them friendly and interested. Overall, he is a curious, lively dog who explores his surroundings with his nose and would like to discover more. For Lucky, we are looking for people who enjoy spending time in nature and value a faithful companion by their side. As a small Dachshund mix, he brings his own personality: He knows what he likes – especially when it comes to cozy spots like the sofa or bed – and knows how to charmfully "address" this. Lucky is a real treasure with a particularly lovable nature that you will quickly fall in love with. Now, he still needs the right home with people who appreciate his friendly, warm nature and give him a permanent, loving life. If you are currently on the lookout for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We provide foster care nationwide.

28. März 2026:Lucky durfte auf seinen deutschen Pflegeplatz reisen. 11. About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
