Lucky

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Lucky is a dog hard to mistake for any other – he looks like he has a distinguished pitbull for a father and a cute, rough-coated terrier for a mother. He has a lot of energy, joy, and enthusiasm – he’s a true volcano of play! He loves running, jumping, fetching, and going wild, and every opportunity to move is a real holiday for him. He’s also a strong and dynamic dog, so we’re looking for a caregiver who can wisely manage his temperament. His story tugs at the heart – abandoned on a deserted property, chained to a shed by a leash. His previous family moved away, taking the smaller dog, and Lucky was left alone… From the information we managed to gather, it’s clear that he previously lived in a home – evidenced by his eagerness to enter buildings and his ability to find his way in familiar surroundings. During recent walks with volunteers, we noticed that Lucky completely doesn’t find his way in crowded spaces. Crowds, bicycles, hula hoops, construction workers – all these urban attractions trigger his hunting instinct or cause stress. He probably never went for walks outside his yard before, so everything is new to him and requires learning – almost from the ground up. He needs a patient guide who will show him the world step by step and teach him that not everything is a cause for worry. At home, Lucky is also learning the rules – he can jump on the counter, peek into the pot on the stove, simply because no one ever showed him what’s not allowed. Therefore, clear boundaries, calmness, and consistency in training are very important. Despite his temperament, Lucky has a gentle heart. He doesn’t show aggression towards other dogs, though he can react with fear to raised hands or leashes – which only confirms that his past wasn’t easy. For Lucky, we’re looking for a home in a quiet area, preferably with access to a garden and quiet walking areas. A home that will give him space, safety, patience, and lots of love. Because Lucky truly deserves it.

About Lucky

What life with Lucky looks like

Lucky is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
