Adopt Lucy

European Shorthair · Female · Senior · 13 years

Thanks to a vigilant mobile caregiver, we came across Lucy. The pretty and lively Lucy lived with an elderly woman in a very small apartment as a purely indoor cat. Her only connection to the outside world was looking out the kitchen window onto the street. The owner could simply not care for her anymore due to severe walking difficulties and was overwhelmed by the responsibility of the pet. Lucy is about 12 years old, a very loving female cat, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. She is quite talkative and tells her humans all sorts of things. She really enjoys finally being able to go through the cat door into the outdoor enclosure, as she never had the opportunity to go outside before. Lucy had the good fortune to move to a wonderful foster home. The foster family did their absolute best for Lucy, fulfilling every wish. However, the sensitive little one was very afraid of the neighboring cats, and unfortunately, this led to stress-induced diarrhea and vomiting. It's a real shame, but there was nothing that could be done. With a heavy heart, Lucy returned to the animal shelter. And strangely enough, she currently feels most comfortable in her own room alone. No diarrhea, no vomiting! One can understand the cat ;-) Since Lucy unfortunately cannot have a foster family, she could still have a kind sponsor who supports her. Maybe even visit her?

About Lucy

What life with Lucy looks like

Lucy is a large senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzhof Ering in Germany.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzhof Ering handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzhof Ering will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzhof Ering early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
