Frieda

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 10 years

A very typical situation brought Frieda to us: Her owner, 89 years old and terminally ill with cancer, had to move to the palliative care unit of the hospital and would not be coming home. Frieda cannot be taken in by the daughter or granddaughter because she does not get along with other cats. Additionally, this pretty female cat, with her distinctive facial markings, is severely overweight, as she was her owner's one and only, and had a very quiet and lazy cat life. She needs diet food to carefully and slowly lose weight. Since she can no longer clean herself, a thick felt mat has formed on the back of Frieda. From one day to the next, everything changed for Frieda: her owner is not there anymore, and the familiar environment and smells are gone! In a very short time, her cat life has been turned upside down. And the animal has no other choice: it is forced to go through all of this, there is no other option :-( Although her new home at the our shelter is nicely set up with thick beds and warm blankets, just like it was at home before, Frieda does not understand the world anymore. It’s no surprise that she is anything but cooperative. She grumbles, growls, and hisses at everything that comes into her room. She urinates in front of the litter box, protest?? Frieda now needs time and help to find her way in the new home and to lose weight - and the animal care team needs a lot of patience so that Frieda can find peace and tranquility.

About Frieda

What life with Frieda looks like

Frieda is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzhof Ering in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Frieda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Frieda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzhof Ering handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Frieda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Frieda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzhof Ering will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Frieda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Frieda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzhof Ering early rather than rehoming privately; they know Frieda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
