Lui

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 7 years

Lui is a powerfully built TTB-type dog who ended up at our shelter following an intervention by his former caregiver. The former caregiver was unable to provide him with proper care—Lui had been living in a basement with no access to the outside world, and his basic needs were not met. Lui’s early days at the shelter were far from easy. He exhibited poor emotional regulation and extreme hyperactivity. However, thanks to the work of behaviorists and the introduction of appropriate pharmacological treatment, Lui has now become a stable dog who actively seeks human interaction. He’s not exactly a cuddle bug, but he does enjoy coming up to people for a belly rub. Walks with Lui are pleasant, though he’s quite strong and sometimes charges forward like a little tank. He has a strong hunting instinct, both toward forest game and cats. Lui loves balls, which he enjoys carrying around in his mouth, as well as plush toys, which he loves to tear apart. He’s smart and quickly learns new commands and behaviors. He knows how to sit, stay, and leave it alone. He’s been trained to wear a muzzle and wears it without any issues. He understands verbal reward cues and clicker training. Lui has a “horse’s tail” syndrome and food-related skin allergies. He eats Brit Care Salmon dry food. From our observations, Lui gets along well with dogs—both females and males. It seems that he could live in a home with a stable, adult dog, provided they’re properly introduced and socialized. For Lui, we’re looking for a home that: – has experience handling and working with TTB-type dogs—a plus! – is home to calm yet consistent owners who know how to lead a dog effectively – doesn’t have small children – includes caregivers willing to collaborate closely with a behaviorist or dog trainer

Potrafi: siad, waruj, zostaw. Jest nauczony zakładania kagańca i nosi go bez problemu. Zna hasło do nagrody słowne i kliker. Dla Luiego szukamy domu: – doświadczonego w posiadaniu i pracy z psem w typie TTB będzie dodatkowym plusem – z osobami spokojnymi, lecz konsekwentnymi w prowadzeniu psa – bez małych dzieci – z opiekunami gotowymi podjąć współpracę z behawiorystą, trenerem

About Lui

What life with Lui looks like

Lui is a large adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lui, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lui?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lui on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lui if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lui already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lui isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lui and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
