Adopt Lui

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 7 years

Lui has been living in the animal shelter for far too long. With each passing day, he withdraws a little more, as if he has given up hope that someone will still see him. Yet, there is a wonderful dog inside him – sensitive, loyal, and full of heart. Once upon a time, Lui was an outgoing, people-oriented dog who delighted in every bit of attention. Even now, he still seeks contact, though he has become quieter. One can see how much he longs for closeness and a familiar place. Lui is an active male dog who needs people who enjoy movement and can show him how wonderful life can be again. He is strong, sometimes a bit stormy, so we wish for him to have steadfast people – preferably those with children from around 12 years old. His black fur often makes him invisible to many. But those who get to know him immediately recognize how brightly he shines from within. Lui has so much love to give – he just needs someone to accept it. It is time for Lui to finally be seen. That someone shows him that his patience and loyalty were not in vain. Glück für Pfoten e.V. – The Path to a New Life – Tel. and Mail: including safety harness. As we are working professionals, we may not be able to respond to you immediately. It is best to contact the above mentioned mediator initially in writing and request a callback. Please be patient! Our sheltered animals travel with Traces and are rehomed exclusively in Germany (nationwide). If you are applying for a dog and are renting, please arrange a written landlord's statement confirming that the housing of (another or a new) dog is permitted. We can only place dogs that do not require an elevator in the second floor to prevent health limitations.

About Lui

What life with Lui looks like

Lui is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Glück für Pfoten e.V. in Dortmund.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lui, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lui?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Glück für Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lui on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lui if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Glück für Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lui already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lui isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Glück für Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lui and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
