Adopt Luke

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Luke has found a home! His story: Bistrita, Romania. Rarely do we find the words to express the fate of our fighter Luke. The great male dog was hit on the head with an axe by a forest worker as a puppy and severely injured. His skull was split open. But deep in his innermost being, Luke knew that someone was waiting for him who would give him a beautiful home and love him so much that the emotional pain would one day subside. And that's why he fought for his life and won that fight. His wounds have healed, and he is now on the lookout for his safe haven. Despite the cruelty Luke had to endure, he is friendly to everyone. And that includes not only humans and other dogs but also the cats he has also embraced in his heart. At one year old, he still has plenty of time to learn the beautiful sides of life. His medium size of around 50 cm and his weight of 16 kg are also easy to handle. It is likely that the great male dog is currently going through puberty. A phase that, like in humans, sometimes leads to the fact that any training is thrown out the window and mischief takes precedence. But fortunately, this time will pass and can be overcome with understanding and appropriate consequences. A visit to a dog training class that works with positive reinforcement would surely please Luke. Not only would he learn the dog ABCs, but he would also have the opportunity to play with his dog buddies, which would surely be to his liking. Luke will be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas in his new home. Of course, he will also bring his EU pet passport. For an adoption fee of 450 Euro and only after a positive assessment, the handsome male dog would also be happy with a foster home placement. Many thanks to Dominik L.! You have given Luke his name.

Vielen Dank Dominik L.! Du hast Luke seinen Namen geschenkt.

About Luke

What life with Luke looks like

Luke is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
