💗 Luma 💗 JADR 📍 Location: Croatia, near Zagreb - can be visited at the shelter at any time 📅 Born: ca. August 28, 2021 ⚖️ Weight: ca. 8 kg 📏 shoulder height: ca. 35 cm 🩺 Health: vaccinated, microchipped, sterilized, EU pet passport present, all necessary tests conducted ✈️ Ready to travel: Yes Your Character 🐶 🐾 Gentle and sensitive - Luma is a quiet, sensitive female dog who needs time to fully warm up. 🐾 Loyal and adaptable - She has surprisingly adapted to life in the house and to fixed routines. 🐾 Clean and attentive - She reliably takes care of her needs outside and clearly signals when she wants to come back inside. 🐾 Cautious outside - In a new environment, she is still a bit cautious and keeps a distance initially. 🐾 Friendly and affectionate - Raising and carrying are okay for her, and she increasingly enjoys the close proximity within a safe frame. Her Story ✨ Our dear volunteer learned that there were two little friends at the animal shelter and didn't hesitate a second to bring them to safety. An animal shelter is not a place for such little girls - at any time, something could have happened to them, as all the other dogs there were bigger and stronger. In the beginning of winter, the animal shelter reported two small puppies who had been staying near a school for days. Children can be cruel to the weaker: they threw stones, chased, and scared them. The two just wanted closeness, food, and a warm place. So, Luma and her friend Lora came together to a cold, dark, and damp animal shelter ☹ They were described as very shy, fearful, and unapproachable. When Luma arrived at the foster home, she cowered panic-stricken in the back of the transport box - frightened, confused, with eyes full of fear that broke your heart. The first hug was pure stress for her. But within a few days, something wonderful happened: she began to trust. She learned about touch, friendly words, safety, and warmth - and she transformed almost imperceptibly into a different dog. Within a short time, she enjoyed closeness, liked being stroked, and found her place in the house. Special Feature 🐾 On her right hind leg, two inner toes are missing. The injury has fully healed, causes no pain, and Luma can stand and walk normally. In moments of insecurity, she sometimes lifts her leg reflexively. The vet confirmed that it is a miracle that she survived this injury without veterinary help. Her Dream Home 🏡 For Luma, we wish for a patient, gentle, and understanding family that gives her time to arrive at her own pace. With calmness, love, and security, she will develop into a wonderful companion. Luma is ready for her new beginning - she just needs a family forever that never leaves her and shows her that she is lovable - just as she is. ❤️🐾 Video of Luma & Lora:.

About Luma

What life with Luma looks like

Luma is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hund sucht Hütte in Austria.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hund sucht Hütte handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hund sucht Hütte will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hund sucht Hütte early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
