Adopt Lumen

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Lumen could live with children aged 10+. She would like to be the only cat in the home and will require outdoor access. Lumen is a lovely, sweet girl who was quite worried when she first arrived here at the shelter. She can be a timid lady and took a little while to let her guard down. She also arrived into our care with another cat, who was displaying some aggressive behaviours towards her. Since separating them, Lumen seems to be a much happier girl, who is now growing in confidence and showing us more and more of her true character. She is a true lap cat who loves attention! She will purr away on your knee, desperate for a fuss! Lumen does love her food and treats but is currently quite overweight. She will need a responsible family who can carefully monitor her diet and encourage her to reach and maintain a healthier weight. Lumen displayed some stress-related behaviours in her previous home which we believe are due to being unhappy living with other cats, so she would be best suited to a home without any other feline companions. She did also live with a dog, who she was said to get along with, so she could potentially live with another calm and well-mannered dog again with slow, careful introductions. Lumen is a sensitive little lady who needs a calm and quiet home who can offer her the time, patience and gentle encouragement she needs whilst she finds her feet and adjusts to her new environment. We have no doubt that she will soon be coming out of her shell in no time and rewarding her forever family with tons of love and affection!

About Lumen

What life with Lumen looks like

Lumen is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lumen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lumen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lumen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lumen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lumen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lumen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lumen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
