Adopt Luna

Female

My name is Luna. Originally, I came from Portugal and lived with a wonderful family. Due to a separation and the difficult housing search (wheelchair-friendly and dog-friendly), I am now here at the animal shelter. The animal shelter is familiar to me as a vacation dog – and now, the people here are helping me find a new home. Although I can stay alone, I prefer to be with my people. Opening doors and overcoming small fences is no problem for me. In my past, I had a serious accident: In my first year as a guard dog, I escaped in 2023 and unfortunately got hit by a train. I broke all four legs. My family took care of me for a long time with love – today, I am again healthy, vital, and full of joy. From my breed, I bring a pronounced prey drive, especially towards cats. Therefore, I should not be walked off-leash in areas with many cats or near the woods. However, I am very well-behaved on a lead and have no problems with it. I also have a good basic obedience. I am initially a bit reserved towards strangers, but once I have you in my heart, I am loyal and look only to you. Health-wise, a few things are worth noting: I have an allergy to dust and fleas, which manifests through scratching. My stomach is also a bit stress-sensitive. With the right care and consideration, however, I get along very well. I wish for a home with people who have a lot of time, patience, and joy in exploring the world with me. A quiet second dog is welcome to be by my side, but it is not a must. Nervous dogs do not suit me as well. Are you the quiet person who can offer me a new beautiful home? About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a small adult dog waiting at Tierheim am Böhler in Unterkulm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim am Böhler handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim am Böhler will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim am Böhler early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
