Adopt Luna

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Luna is a very sweet and extremely intelligent Abruzzese shepherd dog, one true survivor. Together with her little brother Sole, she was abandoned in desperate conditions, but her incredible strength allowed her to overcome hypothermia and every difficulty, becoming a symbol of resilience and hope. Luna has a protective and faithful nature, an inheritance of her breed, and a guardian's instinct that makes her unique. She is an extraordinary dog, who despite her difficult beginning, is ready to build a new life. For her, it will not be easy to find the right family: Luna is looking for informed people who know how to respect her working dog instinct and offer love, space and understanding. Maremma-Abruzzese shepherd dogs, like Luna, are a treasure of the Abruzzese tradition: symbols of strength and loyalty, natural protectors, but also amazing companions. Too often, however, they end up being abandoned due to lack of sterilization and poor management of breeding. Supporting Luna with a sponsorship means allowing her to receive everything she needs to live peacefully in the animal shelter: care, food and the human warmth she deserves. By helping us, you will contribute not only to her well-being, but also to raising awareness about the value and importance of this magnificent breed. Do you want to make a difference in Luna's life? Join her journey: your generosity could help her find peace, and perhaps one day, a truly special family. Give a home and a second chance to a heart full of love that is waiting only for you!

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Associazione Cani Liberi - Rifugio Canalba in Alba Adriatica TE.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Associazione Cani Liberi - Rifugio Canalba handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Associazione Cani Liberi - Rifugio Canalba will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Associazione Cani Liberi - Rifugio Canalba early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
