Luna – from the roadside straight to the heart 🤍🐾. .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-9 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container .fusion-imageframe.imageframe-2 img{aspect-ratio:9 / 16;object-position:35% 70%;} .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-10 > Location: In a foster home in Kotor Varos (BIH) Date of birth: 17.04.2026 Expected shoulder height: approx. 45 cm Compatibility with cats unknown Single or second dog ideal environment: suburban, rural Suitable for: ambitious dog beginners .fusion-body .fusion-button Direct to self-disclosure .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-11 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container .fusion-gallery-2 .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-12 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container Man could look at Lily and think: Well, who has brought this little mop to life? 😂 Zotty cream-colored fur, a small bearded face, black button nose and that grin, which makes you want to grin unavoidably. Lily looks like life has been all about fun, nonsense and very important dates to play so far. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Lily's story begins where a puppy's life should never begin: Lily was found together with her sister Luna near an abandoned house. Two little puppies, without a protective home, without people who took care of them - in an environment where a single second could decide whether they would experience the next day. And this danger was not just theoretical. One of their siblings had already been run over by a car. For this little dog, every help came too late. Lily and Luna were lucky. And suddenly, from two little puppies on the roadside, a story began that could still go on. Today, Lily looks at you and sees surprisingly little past. And apparently very good mood. 🤍 Maybe that's what's touching about her. Lily doesn't know that we humans find her story sad. She only knows that the world has become bigger. And this world she would now like to get to know. With her nose first. 😌 We suspect Lily is a hunting dog mix. Which breeds are actually in her pedigree remains speculation - but both her appearance and her possible predisposition should her future humans consider as a little surprise package. Because if the hunting dog becomes more noticeable later, a young lady could emerge from the cute Flokati, who suddenly realizes during a walk: "Wait a minute. There was a hare about 17 minutes ago. I have to investigate." 🧐 And that's where the fun begins. Because hunting dogs often bring a fantastic nose, endurance, independence and great joy in exploring. Lily should therefore not just be taken for a walk around the block three times a day. Nasal work, track search, mantrailing or other search games can be tried out with her humans. If hunting instinct develops, a well-built recall, orientation to humans and possibly a leash should also be part of everyday life. Do not work against her instincts. And just as important: A clever dog does not have to be busy around the clock. Lily can also learn that there is a time for adventure and then it's time to roll up the Flokati. Because right now Lily is above all one thing: And accordingly, she still needs to learn the entire dog multiplication table. Housebreaking, leash training, being alone, keeping quiet, everyday human life and the extremely disappointing realization that not every object is automatically dog toys. That's where she is

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Nordic Strays e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Nordic Strays e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Nordic Strays e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Nordic Strays e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
