Luna

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Luna, a female German Shepherd born in June 2022, is now looking for a new home. Her previous owners have worked extensively with her and attended dog school from the beginning. However, both sides have reached a point where it is clear that Luna and her owners no longer fit together in terms of their needs. Luna requires a different type of leadership and her owners no longer feel capable of providing it. Luna is an intelligent, active, and independent dog that forms a close bond with her owner and can work well with them. She is highly motivated by food and loves search games and the food bag. Her owner can touch her anywhere and even take food away from her. At the same time, Luna has a strong guarding and territorial instinct. She attentively reports noises in the stairwell or outside the apartment, finds it difficult to accept visitors, and tries to control strangers. She often appears uncertain and reacts accordingly, especially with men. Luna can also be very reactive to strangers outside the house. Therefore, it is now particularly important to avoid situations that overwhelm her and to guide her safely. Her social behavior with other dogs should also be built up and accompanied carefully. She gets along better with smaller dogs and usually ignores them. With larger dogs, she may tend to chase or play behavior, but she is quickly overwhelmed by it. Therefore, Luna should live as a single dog in her new home. She also shows resource issues with food, her owner, and her resting places. She is not familiar with other animals yet. Luna is looking for people who understand her language and can give her clear, calm, and confident guidance. People who challenge her without overwhelming her, set reliable boundaries for her, and at the same time see her strengths. Luna is clever and able to learn - she needs tasks, employment, and a person who gives her security and makes decisions for her. We are looking for people for Luna who are willing to work with her and who see the support of a good dog school or trainer as a matter of course. The goal should be to become a real team with Luna - and to remain this team for a long time. A structured, quiet home without children and preferably without much changing visitors would help her to settle in and show her abilities. Luna is not a dog that simply "walks along". Those who engage with her will get an attentive, active, and very bonding dog who wants to work with her owner and go through life with him. Luna is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive preliminary check. Wearing a safety harness is necessary when picking up the dog. A harness (3 straps) can be purchased for only 25€.

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
