Luna

Female · Senior · 9 years

Luna is a lovely 9 year old Elkhound with a heart full of friendship and a tummy that’s always ready for snacks! Described by her foster carer as incredibly sweet and friendly, Luna loves meeting people, pottering around the garden, and heading out on her daily walks. She enjoys playing with her Kong, carrying around her favourite stuffed pig, and showing off her tricks, including sit and paw. Luna travels well in the car, enjoys being brushed, and settles nicely at home after an adventure. Luna is looking for a loving home where she can continue to blossom and enjoy life's simple pleasures. Luna is a fun-loving, affectionate girl who is always ready to brighten your day with her happy personality and playful nature. She loves to make friends and get out for on-lead walks. Luna is looking for a home with a secure garden where she can play and relax, and she would like to be the only dog in the home so she can soak up all the attention. She can live with children of upper primary school age and above, and while she can't live with cats, she could share a home with small furries if kept separate. Luna can be left for a few hours once settled. Luna is currently living her best life in one of our lovely foster homes and so is not based at the centre.

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a small senior dog waiting at Dogs Trust Manchester in Manchester.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Manchester handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Manchester will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Manchester early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
