Adopt Lurens (reserviert)

Mixed Breed · Male

LURENS came to Germany from Romania in late March and was rehomed immediately from a transport to his new home, as is unfortunately often the case with shelters. It quickly became clear that the older female dog already living there was overwhelmed by his great playfulness and exuberance. She withdrew more and more, so they decided to bring Lurens to our animal shelter to find him a forever home that would be just right for him. Does it sound like a tough start? Yes, it did. But LURENS wouldn’t be LURENS if he had let it get to him. Instead, he decided: “I take my life into my own paws now.” And he does it pretty well. He’s a real quick learner. Clever, smart, curious – one who not only follows but also thinks. He’s already learned a lot, and it’s immediately clear: this dog wants to understand, to be part of things, to be liked. New impressions? He soaks them up like a sponge. In the car? He loves it. Being alone for hours? He can – very relaxed and without causing chaos. House-trained? He’s always been. He’s also learned to walk on a leash well, because he finds walks super exciting and is very happy to meet other dogs and make contact with them, because he gets along well with fellow animals of both sexes and would like to play all day. And after the adventure? Then the whirlwind turns into an absolute cuddle king. After a day full of movement, play, and discovery, LURENS loves nothing more than snuggling into his dog bed, enjoying cuddles, and sleeping contentedly. LURENS is not only exceptionally clever but also a real clown. Playful to the very tips of his playful, energetic hair, always ready for the next adventure. A second dog? No problem, he’d even be happy to have one – but please, one who is just as eager to go as he is. LURENS hasn’t met any cats yet. LURENS also looks for clear, secure leadership. His past in the Romanian killing has left its mark, so he is unsure of strangers. Lurens is an impressive dog who forms a close bond with his people and shows himself as a loyal companion. He brings many positive qualities and has already made great progress in his development. At the same time, Lurens also has a strong sense of responsibility for his home. He takes his task of guarding his territory very seriously and reacts sensitively to strangers on his property. In such situations, he still needs clear guidance and targeted training to show him that his people provide him with security and that he can accept visitors in a relaxed manner. With the support of his trusted people, Lurens already shows that he is trainable: His behavior can be well controlled on the leash, and he can handle situations much more calmly. (For additional security and to give him more orientation, the use of a muzzle in training could be beneficial.) Lurens therefore seeks an experienced home that is willing to continue working with him and to teach him the necessary security in dealing with visitors. With patience, structure, and consistent leadership, he has the potential to become a faithful and reliable partner. His perfect home? An active household with adult, dog-experienced, and consistent people who are willing to invest time in further fostering him and growing together in everyday life.

Er hat schon ordentlich was gelernt, und man merkt sofort: Dieser Hund will verstehen, will dabei sein, will gefallen.Neue Eindrücke? Saugt er auf wie ein Schwamm.Im Auto mitfahren? Findet er super.Stundenweise alleine bleiben?

About Lurens (reserviert)

What life with Lurens (reserviert) looks like

Lurens (reserviert) is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Bergheim in Bergheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lurens (reserviert), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lurens (reserviert)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bergheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lurens (reserviert) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lurens (reserviert) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bergheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lurens (reserviert) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lurens (reserviert) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bergheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lurens (reserviert) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
