Luther

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Imagine having once had a home, a fixed place by a person’s side, only to have to exchange it for a cage among 600 fellow sufferers. This is the fate of Luther, a seven-year-old mixed-breed male dog, who waits at the giant animal shelter Odai in Romania for his turn to be lucky again. Despite the overwhelming noise and the cramped space in the shelter, Luther has preserved his gentle and balanced character. As he has already lived with people, he knows how wonderful shared moments are and enjoys every second of attention given to him in the stressful shelter life. Luther is a dog for connoisseurs and people who are looking for a well-established companion. If you are searching for a partner for relaxed walks, you will find him, as he masters the putting on of leash and harness with complete sovereignty and patience. He is at the perfect age to start anew and proves daily that he is not yet old. His clever head wants to be occupied, and since Luther is very receptive to tasty rewards, it is clear to him that the shared training brings joy. He learns quickly and simply wants to please his counterpart. Also in social interaction, Luther shows his best side. He gets along well with other dogs and is always polite and unobtrusive in handling. He is not a dog who pushes to the front, but one who impresses through his quiet presence and deep loyalty. Luther now waits to finally leave the bars of Odai behind and pack his bags for a trip to a permanent dog bed, where he can again be the loyal companion he heartily wishes to be. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V.

© 2006-2026 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Luther

What life with Luther looks like

Luther is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luther, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luther?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luther on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luther if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luther already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luther isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luther and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
