Lyla (& Bertie)

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Meet our delightful pair Lyla & Bertie. The pair arrived to Battersea with some fellow canine friends from the same home. Lyla & Bertie were initially timid and sensitive, but have both shown a lot of progress and potential during their stay with us. Lyla & Bertie had very little experience with the outside world and with gentle and gradual exposure with their humans here at Battersea, they have shown to gain some self esteem each day. For this reason they are both looking for a home ideally with a garden with access to quiet walking routes so that they can continue to build confidence out on their walks. Lyla & Bertie are looking for owners who are willing to help show them the ropes and feel at ease taking it one paw at a time. Lyla & Bertie will no doubt bloom in their new home where they can snuggle into their owners enjoying all the company. We are confident once they has settled into their loving home, they will continue to flourish. Lyla & Bertie have both shown some lovely social skills with people, however they will need ongoing training in the home to teach them to come away if they are uncomfortable. Overall, new owners will need to be patient and willing to help them build the confidence that they need as they embark on their newest chapter. About Lyla (& Bertie)

What life with Lyla (& Bertie) looks like

Lyla (& Bertie) is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Timid and sensitive dogs requiring quiet home with garden for confidence building

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lyla (& Bertie), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lyla (& Bertie)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lyla (& Bertie) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lyla (& Bertie) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lyla (& Bertie) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lyla (& Bertie) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lyla (& Bertie) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
