Lyona

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

To all German Shepherds fans and those who aspire to be one: Here is the wonderful Lyona, eagerly waiting for a home. Why does such a magnificent female dog with such a pleasant character end up in an animal shelter? Well, in this case, we can provide an answer, because Lyona was not abandoned but lived with an old man on a chain since puppyhood. Yes, you read that right, and it's hard to imagine such a sad puppy fate. No dog bed to snuggle in, no playmates, no walks, and no interaction. Endless and meaningless days, so much sadness. About two years ago, the man came to his senses and dropped off Lyona at the animal shelter. He justified the surrender by saying that he didn't know how lively a young dog would be and how much exercise it would need when he got the dog. Therefore, it seemed easiest to him to put the puppy on a chain. Now, Lyona is 5 years old and has not had a single day of an adequately comfortable home in her dog life. She is such a friendly and eager-to-learn little dog girl. She would love to sit at the school desk, in other words, to attend dog training classes. She would love to roam the fields with her people, her family, feel the grass under her paws, explore her surroundings, and dream sweet dog dreams at night in her own dog bed. Lyona presents herself at the animal shelter as uncomplicated and open to all staff members. Grateful for every pat and affection, she longs for the people with whom she can go through thick and thin, just like a German Shepherd should.

About Lyona

What life with Lyona looks like

Lyona is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lyona, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lyona?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lyona on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lyona if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lyona already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lyona isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lyona and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
