Maarja

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 10 years

Today I would like to introduce you to Maarja – an approximately 7-year-old cat who came to me 4 years ago from Viimsi. Her two kittens – Maria and Marie – were very sick and stayed in the clinic's hospital. Now the cat family is healthy, but unfortunately, no one has come forward with a home for them yet. Initially, Maarja was extremely scared, hissed and attacked with her paws. Now she has calmed down and can be said to be rather gentle and quiet – she keeps her distance from people, sometimes barely touching the hand. She watches visitors from a distance, and her favorite sleeping spots are on the windowsill in the sunlight. Maarja has good relationships with other cats – they play and sleep together. In a private home, Maarja would make progress with people much faster. A social cat needs constant presence of a person and more individual attention than I can provide here from the cat room. All necessary procedures have been done for Maarja – she is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and has received regular parasite treatment. If you feel that you would like to adopt this three-colored beauty as your best friend, please contact us!

Omas kodus oleksid Maarja edusammud inimestega kordades kiiremad. Tekkis huvi? Täida ankeet ja paku kodu!

About Maarja

What life with Maarja looks like

Maarja is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ in Estonia.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇪Adopting from Estonia

Frequently asked

Adopting Maarja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maarja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maarja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maarja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maarja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maarja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Gabrieli Loomade Elu MTÜ early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maarja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ET). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
