Macadamio

Male · Young · 1 year

- reserved - curious - knows other cats - needs a walk - house-trained Macadamio came to us as a precaution at the animal shelter. Now, the curious little maunzie is searching for a forever home. Macadamio is a reserved but at the same time very curious tomcat who cautiously meets new situations. He needs some time to build trust and adapt to a new environment. Once he has settled in, he will gradually warm up and show his interested and cuddly side. The handsome tomcat already knows how to get along with other cats and gets along well with fellow animals. Therefore, Macadamio would particularly appreciate a home where he can move in with a compatible companion (Peanut 146_S_26, Pistazie 147_S_26, Cashew 996_F_26, Aria 152_S_26). The company of other cats gives him security and orientation. Macadamio is house-trained and would like to enjoy a walk after an appropriate settling-in period, as he likes to explore his surroundings. A quiet home with a safe way to go outside would therefore be ideal for him. For Macadamio, we are looking for patient and understanding people who will give him the time to settle in peacefully. Whoever gives him this chance will likely witness how he gradually warms up and becomes a loyal companion. This animal is from a pairing with a breeder in a breeding mill. The breeding-induced morphological and/or physiological changes in so-called breeding mill breeds can lead to behavioral problems and are associated with physical suffering and pain for the animals. According to § 11b Animal Protection Act, the breeding of such animals is prohibited. One characteristic of this breed is the breeding-induced strong shortening of the facial skull. This leads to a narrowing of the upper airways and tear duct, inward-rotating eyelid margins, overbite, underbite, and crooked bite, which can severely complicate food intake. The wide skull makes a natural birth impossible. If the animals suffer anatomically, it is a breeding mill. As advocates for the animals, we reject this. Animal owners who support such breeding act irresponsibly. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Macadamio

What life with Macadamio looks like

Macadamio is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Macadamio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Macadamio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Macadamio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Macadamio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Macadamio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Macadamio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Macadamio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
