Adopt Mack

Mixed Breed · Male

Mack is a mixed-breed dog born in January 2024, who was seized by his owner due to shocking living conditions and brought to our Hungarian partner shelter. He suffered from Demodex mites and was treated for them. His skin has now fully recovered. However, it must be monitored that in case of a weakened immune system, the skin does not become inflamed again. Mack is a friendly and lively young dog who initially behaves somewhat timidly towards strangers. Once he has gained confidence, he becomes very affectionate and forms a close relationship with his caretakers. He enjoys moving around, loves any shared activity and has fun learning new things. Due to his gentle character, he is perfect as a family dog, and families with understanding children would have a lot of joy with him. Mack gets along well with other dogs, is submissive towards them and would be a good choice as a second dog. It is unknown how he reacts to cats. He wishes for loving and active people who patiently help him get used to his new life, have enough free time and do not live in the middle of the city. Some experience in dog ownership should already be present. The dog has a shoulder height of 44 cm and weighs 14 kg. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

Read original (hu)

About Mack

What life with Mack looks like

Mack is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mack, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mack?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mack on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mack if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mack already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mack isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mack and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
