Mackerel

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Adult · 9 years

Treats are the way to her heart and she loves lick-e-licks that she likes to eat from her very own fancy plate. She will be taking this with her to her new home. Mackerel will need a calm home as she is not keen on strangers and will scare easily. We feel that she will thrive as a housecat in an adult only household but she may love a catio. Due to her nervous temperament Mackerel is currently being prescribed Gabapentin and will be rehomed along with the medication to slowly wean off whilst settling in her new home. She also suffers from stress related fur loss which can come and go. "*" indicates required fields Here’s where we ask more questions about you, your lifestyle and what you’re looking for in a pet. About Mackerel

What life with Mackerel looks like

Mackerel is a adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Bristol Animal Rescue Centre in Bristol.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mackerel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mackerel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bristol Animal Rescue Centre handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mackerel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mackerel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bristol Animal Rescue Centre will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mackerel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mackerel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bristol Animal Rescue Centre early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mackerel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
