Adopt Mady

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Because there are a huge number of homeless dogs in Romania, there are also many people who help. There are big and small private shelters and also many people who have a few rescued animals at home or in their yard. In December 2021, Delia, the administrator of Care for Dogs, received a call asking for help. A woman living near Brasov had taken almost 30 dogs into her home. Recently, the woman had fallen ill and the dogs were left to their own fate in her house. Delia and her team rushed to the house, where the scene was sad. The dogs had been without proper food and care for a long time. The dogs had various health problems and most of them were very thin. The whole house was dirty and full of broken furniture. All the dogs were trapped and taken to the shelter kennel. Most of them have already found their forever homes, but the male dogs are still waiting for their chance in the shelter kennel. One of them is a sweet Mady. Mady is a kind old lady. She lived for a long time in the large outdoor enclosures of the shelter, but she didn't really get active there, so the shelter staff decided to move her to the front yard of the shelter. Mady has adapted surprisingly well to the busy front yard and is already handling daily routines very nicely. However, she still does not approach people, preferring to keep a small distance from them. However, she can be approached calmly and touched without any problems. Mady has also tried walking on a leash a few times, but walking on a leash clearly makes her nervous. She is very unnoticed in the shelter kennel and is often found somewhere in the yard's corners or other soft places watching people. The warmth and soft bed of her own home would certainly be very appealing to Mady. Mady gets along very well with other dogs. Mady has been diagnosed with heart failure in Romania, which has remained under control thanks to good medication.

Yksi heistä on suloinen Mady. Mady on hellyttävä vanha rouva.

About Mady

What life with Mady looks like

Mady is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Embla Rescue in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mady, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mady?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Embla Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mady on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mady if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Embla Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mady already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mady isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Embla Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mady and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
