Magnus is looking for a large warm basket - can you offer him one? Magnus lived with his brothers in a kennel on the premises of a company since his childhood. Some people took care of the dogs, but they could not stay any longer. While Magnus was friendly towards people he trusted, he was rather suspicious towards strangers and guarded his area. More information about how the dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal protection FAQ. As soon as Magnus notices people outside his kennel, he looks interestedly outside. When visitors approach the door, he stands up and starts wagging his tail happily. Magnus actively seeks human contact and asks for affection by leaning his head or body against them. During contact, he continuously wags his tail and appears attentive and friendly. He reacts interestedly to sounds, raises his ears and is easily motivated by conversation or movement. This furry nose is new at the shelter. Our carers take time to get to know each dog and assess them. Once we know more about the character of this furry nose, we will add to this profile. Of course, you can still fill out a self-assessment for this dog. We suspect that Magnus has a herding dog (HSH) in him. Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a herding dog. HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leader. We wish for people who are aware that rescue dogs have a certain history. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we're looking for people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts instead of buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-assessment! Adoption If you are considering adoption, read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated against fleas, and neutered (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send our adoption team a message.

About Magnus

What life with Magnus looks like

Magnus is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Magnus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Magnus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Magnus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Magnus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Magnus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Magnus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Magnus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
