Mahina

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 7 months

At the animal shelter since: December 2025 Estimated age: born around November 2025 Estimated height at the shoulder: about 20 - 39 cm Get to know Mahina directly in the video! Will you give this sweet Mahina a chance? This little furball was rescued along with her mother and siblings from a killing station. We don't even want to imagine how terrible this start in life must have been for her. Fortunately, Mahina can now recover in our animal shelter and is lovingly cared for by our caretakers. More information about how the dogs come to the animal shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal protection FAQ. Mahina is an open, playful puppy girl who meets people openly and curiously. As soon as visitors stand in front of her kennel, she is attentive, seeks closeness and is happy about any form of interaction. Whether cleaning or playing together - Mahina is right in the middle, not just present. She loves to dart around, jump joyfully through fresh straw and repeatedly take a few cuddles. Mahina is social, playful and enjoys lively play as well as small cuddle moments. If you would like more information about this furry face, feel free to write to our adoption team. Puppies should not have to grow up in the animal shelter. That's why we are urgently looking for a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little fur ball - a place where she can discover the world, build trust and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding daily life with a young dog can be: As soon as housebreaking is achieved, the "wild puberty" often begins - full of energy, uncertainties and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that human and dog go through together - with highs, lows and plenty of learning moments. We wish for this furry face people with patience, empathy and perseverance - and with the understanding that rescue dogs often already have a certain history. How exactly they react to the new life in Germany cannot be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: Whoever adopts instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance, but actively chooses against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering an adoption, please read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas and neutered (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you still have questions, feel free to send a message to our adoption team.

About Mahina

What life with Mahina looks like

Mahina is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mahina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mahina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mahina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mahina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mahina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mahina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mahina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
