Mailia

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 11 months

Mailea, a gentle female dog, has been at the shelter since October 2026. She is estimated to be around 10 years old, stands about 50-59 cm tall, and weighs approximately 15-19 kg. Learn more about Mailea in our videos and photos! Mailea is a sweet dog who is looking for her forever home. We rescued her from a killing station in Romania. She was exhausted and sad but still friendly. We explain how dogs end up there and more in our animal welfare FAQ. This furry friend is new to the shelter. So far, Mailea has been friendly and open. She lets everyone pet her and quickly calms down after initial excitement. She gets along well with her kennel mates. Our caregivers take the time to get to know and assess each dog. We will update this profile as we learn more about her personality. You can still fill out a self-disclosure form for this dog. We are looking for people who understand that rescue dogs have a certain history. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany at the shelter. That's why we need people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: adopting instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. In love yet? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before departure (except for puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs over 1 year old are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message to our placement team.

About Mailia

What life with Mailia looks like

Mailia is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mailia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mailia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mailia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mailia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mailia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mailia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mailia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
