Adopt Mais

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 9 years

Male | 9 years | Social and cuddly | Fits in homes with children He wants a home where he is not much alone at home. Maize is fond of cuddles and attention, and is a confident cat who quickly settles into new places.Mais is super chill, loves cuddles and afternoon naps, and his goal in life is to charm you in the sink Occasionally he gets a raptus round, but quickly returns to his calm and restrained state on the sofa.Mais probably fits into most homes, and he is so reassure yourself that a family with small children will be fine too. He has lived as an indoor cat for at least 4 years that we know of before he came to us, and it seems that he is coping fine. New owner must facilitate that he has activities, toys, scratching racks and other things to spend his time with. You'll be fine if you already have a good cat. We recommend a new home to have a safe outdoor area or an air yard, so he can feel the fresh air and warmth of the sun. Alternatively, he can be aired in a harness, which is also a nice habit if he is going to be an outdoor cat as well. Before purchasing an animal, it is important to think carefully. Regardless of the species, there are great obligations! Read up on the animal's needs, feel free to use our guides for cats, dogs and rabbits - they can be found under the hashtag "Animal husbandry".

About Mais

What life with Mais looks like

Mais is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Hedmark in Hamar.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mais, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mais?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Hedmark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mais on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mais if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Hedmark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mais already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mais isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge Hedmark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mais and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
