Adopt Maja

Unknown

Maja wants to always do everything right, but her life has already gone wrong in so many ways. She ended up in the animal shelter due to her owner's time constraints. Maja is a herding dog and is typically reserved and suspicious of strangers. She quickly notices when people have weaknesses and act unclearly or show uncertainty. This, in turn, upsets Maja. After a failed interaction with Maja, she feels a constant sense of responsibility and lived very intimately with her owner in her last home. When a new man entered her life, Maja latched onto him and had to return to the animal shelter. Maja is a female dog who is generally modest and very brave, accepting even not-so-nice circumstances. She quickly adapted to the shelter routine and is still uncomplicated and easy to handle with us. She needs a clear structure with firm rules, with consistency and a lot of goodwill and positive feedback. Maja is a quiet dog who would like to bond closely with one person and do anything for that person. She is sensitive, very fine in communication, and closely observes her surroundings. If she is led with foresight and you take on the responsibility, Maja is a wonderful, easy-to-handle dog. Maja wears her muzzle without problems and is well-leash trained. She can be left alone, enjoys car rides, and can behave well in the city. Traffic noises stress her, and she should live in a rural area. Maja has arthritis in her back and needs pain medication occasionally. We know it will be very difficult to find a new home for Maja, but she is no problem for people who can truly be dog owners. Maja is very cuddly and dependent, needing a lot of positive reinforcement but especially clear rules. We would prefer to find a single person without children, living in a rural area with standing and good dog experience.

About Maja

What life with Maja looks like

Maja is a adult dog waiting at Tierheim Koblenz in Koblenz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Koblenz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Koblenz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Koblenz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
