Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Tierausweis Das bin ich! Lust auf ein Treffen? Werde mein Pate! Name: Cooper Rasse: mixed breed Geschlecht: male neutered Größe: 70 Centimeters Gewicht: 37.5 Kilograms Alter: 10/2016 Im animal shelter seit: 29.07.2020 Wir bedanken uns bei allen Paten für Ihre Unterstützung: Mareike F., Klaus Werner M., Lydia S. The long-limbed Lulatsch is particularly known among our regular walkers as a big snuggler who isn’t above getting dirty for a belly rub. “Coopi,” as he is affectionately named, demands a handful of treats and long walks through field and forest as a reward for good behavior, during which he also enjoys a dip in the Weser in the summer months. The small dog 1x1 is familiar to him, and he usually behaves well on the leash, performing a perfect “sit,” being gentle with furniture, and is house-trained. Occasionally, female dogs have managed to win Coopi’s heart, so a temporary stay in the common run isn’t a problem and even small play sessions have been observed. However, when forming friendships—whether with a dog or a person—he is selective. The mutual liking must be mutual. In December 2023, Cooper was diagnosed with advanced ED (elbow dysplasia). Additionally, he has spondylosis in his lumbar region. He experiences varying degrees of pain at different times, which can be noticed in his shorter stride. When needed, we provide him with pain medication. Due to pronounced food intolerances, he receives only food based on ostrich (Happy Dog Africa). He has a resourcefulness with (food) resources. His bowl, fallen treats, and larger chew items are very important to him, and he defends them seriously at times. For Cooper, who has been waiting for the right people for a very long time, we still hope for a home that will take him in, work with him on training, and ensure his safety with a muzzle.

Tierausweis Das bin ich! Lust auf ein Treffen? Werde mein Pate! About Cooper

What life with Cooper looks like

Cooper is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Name in Bad Karlshafen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cooper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cooper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Name handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cooper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cooper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Name will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cooper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cooper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Name early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cooper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
