Mali

Belgian Malinois · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Mali was seized in September 2024 due to a biting incident and inadequate care. He was highly agitated and overwhelmed during the seizure. After being seized, Mali was initially housed at the animal shelter, then moved to the Apollo Dog School & Boarding in Liebenau in November 2024, and since May 2026, he has been living with "Hilfe für Schattenbullys e.V." in Meinerzhagen, where he receives expert care. Current Development and Character: Under the care at the boarding facility, Mali has become significantly more stable. According to the dog school, he is: • sensitive but confident, • much calmer and more balanced than at the beginning, • friendly and open to strangers, • initially somewhat skeptical of men and other dogs. Mali needs for his further positive development above all: • a calm, clear and consistent leadership without harshness, • reliable reference persons, • time to build trust. He clearly shows his limits, which makes it easy to work with him when these are respected. Training Needs: For Mali's further development, it is important to continue working specifically on the following points: • leash training, • impulse control, • calm and controlled interaction with environmental stimuli. Mali is trainable and eager to learn, but still needs consistent guidance and training. Sought-after Home: A very responsible and permanent home is sought for Mali. Ideally, his future owners should have: • experience in dealing with demanding and sensitive dogs, • a willingness to continue working with him and continuing the training, • patience, calmness and understanding for his individual needs and possible trigger points. Despite his difficult start in life, Mali should get a fair chance at a stable and loving home. With the right people, sufficient exercise and a calm environment, he can thrive.

About Mali

What life with Mali looks like

Mali is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierheim Forchheim in Forchheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mali, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mali?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Forchheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mali on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mali if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Forchheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mali already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mali isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Forchheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mali and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
