Malibu

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

Malibu could finally be rehomed to her new owners in December 2017 after the ownership issue and the associated Tasso registration were clarified… ………………………………………………………………………………………………………… My name is Malibu. I am female, spayed, microchipped and born around 2008. I am approximately 45cm tall. I have been waiting for a new home since September 2016. This is what my caretakers say about me: Malibu is a dog mother originally taken in by us from Poland, who was successfully rehomed. At that time everyone was very happy because she was adopted together with her dog friend and both lived in a quiet rural area. That was ideal for her, we had needed a long time to gain Malibu's trust. She was shy and timid, but never aggressive in stressful situations. Unfortunately the owners separated and divided the dogs. Malis owner can't manage monthly and dog ownership at the same time. To provide Mali a proper dog life, he decided to take this step. From today's assessment, we can say that she didn't get a lion's heart in her previous home, but compared to the first intake, she has become significantly more confident. She likes to come to someone when she notices that it's going for a walk, she shows less panic, even though she is cautious with new people. She lives in a dog group with us, and with other animals, Mali is absolutely compatible, we think that she can get used to other animals if there is no danger from them. Mali is an ideal second dog, but trust in humans can still be further developed, gladly also through learning commands that help Mali in stressful situations by offering alternatives. Mali is house trained, a brave passenger, walks superbly on a leash, and is very affectionate when she trusts. She can be left alone, is watchful without being a barker. She doesn't want a home in the big city, something smaller is okay. Whether house with garden or suitable for apartment living doesn't matter, there shouldn't be too much chaos in the new home. She is suitable for children with appropriate understanding of a sensitive dog under the supervision of parents. We and the former owners would be very happy if Mali finally has a family again... gladly as a second dog and with the efforts to further train her fear issues. We are sure there is still a lot of room for improvement with the necessary understanding and some patience... Malibu is waiting for her second chance... The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in the new home.

About Malibu

What life with Malibu looks like

Malibu is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Malibu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Malibu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Malibu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Malibu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Malibu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Malibu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Malibu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
