Malina

Mixed Breed · Female

As soon as we saw her photos that came from the original owners along with a request for help, our hearts completely sank. Then we picked up Malinka and found out she looked even worse in person... Not only was there no fur on half her body, but she was also extremely thin. Skin problems apparently started a year ago, but the owners couldn't effectively address them, which is how it ended up. It's unclear why Malinka was so terribly emaciated - it could have been health issues, poor nutrition... Malinka scratched a lot, her skin was inflamed and full of yeast. The yeast and bacteria were also found in her ears by the doctor. In addition, according to the ultrasound, her bladder wasn't entirely in order either. To sum up, there was quite a lot wrong. But Malinka still had a chance for a good life! And we were determined to do everything possible to give her that. First, it was necessary to find out exactly what Malinka was suffering from, so we could apply the right treatment. According to skin swabs, she didn't have a fungus and blood tests showed several deteriorated values, but they weren't enough to find a clear cause, so we had to look further. For starters, Malinka at least received antibiotics, ear drops, and a special shampoo that should help her skin. Within two weeks, she gained almost two kilograms, and even though she was still thin, she no longer looked like just bones and skin. Overall, she had much more energy and strength, managed longer walks, and sometimes even got involved in garden digging. The doctor hardly believed her own eyes during the check-up when she saw how much Malinka had improved in such a short time. The temporary foster mom left literally showered with praise for how diligently she took care of Malinka. Thanks to regular baths, the yeast was finally brought under control, so after that, bathing twice a week was sufficient. As the next step, urine testing was done for Cushing's syndrome - the result was fortunately negative! Therefore, the problem is probably really a very strong allergy.

Kvasinky a bakterie pak paní doktorka objevila i v ouškách. A podle SONO vyšetření navíc neměla úplně v pořádku ani močový měchýř… A my byli rozhodnutí udělat, vše, co půjde, abychom jí ho dopřáli.

About Malina

What life with Malina looks like

Malina is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice in Czech Republic.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇿Adopting from Czech Republic

Czech shelters (útulky) include sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID. The adopter signs a written contract (smlouva) — the shelter may follow up to verify wellbeing.

Frequently asked

Adopting Malina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Malina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Malina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Malina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Malina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Malina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Handipet Rescue Hoření Vinice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Malina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CS). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
