Adopt MAMUT

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Born in 2017, MAMUT is initially very cautious when interacting with people and reacts distrustfully to strangers. When not feeling safe with someone, MAMUT watches every hand movement carefully and can show that he doesn't want touch or interaction. However, when he trusts someone, he reveals himself as an amazing dog. With his shelter caregivers, MAMUT opens up, relaxes, and allows a lot. He is an incredibly intelligent dog with very clear communication - MAMUT clearly shows when something is not to his liking. By reading Mamut's signals, a lasting and trust-based relationship can be formed. Although he is not a big cuddler, he gladly comes for pets from people he knows. He walks on a leash quite nicely and responds to calls, although he is a strong dog and may pull hard during walks. The city noise bothers him, and in stressful situations, he seeks support from his caregiver. He is positively oriented towards most dogs he meets, but is unsure and not forward in closer contact. He loves to run freely in the yard, always coming when called or when signaled by the caregiver's body language. He really likes to play with toys and chase them, but in his case, fetch is not a good idea - MAMUT quickly gets excited about toys and unwillingly shares them, which he clearly shows. MAMUT is still learning that human touch can be pleasant. He has made significant progress, but caution is still needed. For now, he does not tolerate veterinary procedures, but allows more grooming procedures. He is an active, agile dog, eager for long forest walks. In addition to a substantial amount of exercise, he also needs a lot of calm. He is not suitable for a home with children or cats. We are looking for a patient and aware home that is prepared for a longer acquaintance with the dog in the animal shelter and further work after adoption.

Miejski zgiełk go niepokoi, a w stresujących sytuacjach szuka wsparcia w opiekunie.

About MAMUT

What life with MAMUT looks like

MAMUT is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze in Zielona Góra.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting MAMUT, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about MAMUT?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw MAMUT on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt MAMUT if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is MAMUT already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if MAMUT isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze early rather than rehoming privately; they know MAMUT and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
