adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Manitu was locally adopted! His story: Bistrita, Romania. Fluffy giant on the hunt for his forever home! Our shelter dog Manitu stands at around 75 cm shoulder height and is a true giant! Currently, he lives in the public shelter in Bistrita. Life in a small kennel is unfortunately not natural or suitable for him, given his size. He would much rather live on a property with a large yard where he can run around and protect! Do you have space for our giant? Manitu is estimated to be 7-9 years old and should not have to spend the rest of his life in that small kennel. That he does not like life there is unfortunately clear. He lives in a kennel with a female dog, with whom he gets along well. It is assumed that he generally has no problem with female dogs. However, he shows unfriendly behavior towards male dogs when observed from outside the kennel. While he is interested in people when they come to the kennel to visit him outside, he becomes unfriendly as soon as they want to enter. This behavior will surely change and he will show his friendly side once he finds a suitable and natural home! His new family should give him plenty of family contact, cuddles, treats, and closeness so that he can learn that people are fundamentally good. As a herding dog, his new people should bring experience with the character traits and training of these dogs. They are not city or office dogs and independent personalities that require the owner to have the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent, large dog. They bring many great qualities. A large property that they can guard would be great for them. Since the territory of a herding dog extends as far as he can see, the property should be fenced to show him its territory boundaries. Our Manitu is microchipped, vaccinated, and has an EU pet passport. Many thanks to Asja K.! You have named Manitu.

Vielen Dank Asja K.! Du hast Manitu seinen Namen geschenkt.

About Manitu

What life with Manitu looks like

Manitu is a extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Manitu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Manitu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Manitu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Manitu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Manitu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Manitu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Manitu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
